Innovate UK chooses Skyfarer for medical delivery services
4th August 2020
Coventry, UK: Skyfarer is pleased to announce that we have been chosen by Innovate UK to develop the necessary technology in order to operate medical logistics via autonomous drones. Out of around 20,000 applications, only 800 (approx.) businesses were awarded funding in this call, and Skyfarer fits into that 800! This is a massive confidence boost for Skyfarer and our vision to make drones safer and to use this technology to save lives.
So what is our project all about? Well, imagine a world of autonomous Just In Time delivery with no impact on road congestion and no increase in fossil fuel emissions. The kind of delivery that can be carried out by a drone, fast and direct, applicable in any logistical application, from medicine to Organs, from food to mobile phones. We have the technology to do this today. The project aims to exploit drone technology in order to release the capabilities and benefits on supply chains for the NHS in particular.
With Innovate UK's backing, we now have the opportunity to taxi onto the runway that is medical drone delivery. When we talk about medical delivery, we’re referring to use cases such as medicines for those who aren’t able to get out and about, blood for emergency operations/transfusions and also organs for transplants. Our aim is to cut the time of travel so the NHS can receive what they need quicker and more cost-effectively than ever before.
Over the next 5 months, we will be working with Coventry University, FlyPulse, and Altitude Angel to develop, trial and demonstrate our vision for logistical drone operations in the UK. Watch this space as we release more information about the project and developments towards making drone delivery possible!
